A short drive still needs a complete moving plan.
A local household move can include the agreed collection, loading, transport and unloading of furniture and cartons, with placement by room at the receiving address. We prepare a written plan from the actual belongings and both properties. Apartment moves, houses, downsizing and selected household shipments need different staffing and sequences.
The planning team chooses an item list, video review or in-person survey according to the work and applicable rules. Floor area gives context; it cannot show an upright piano, a filled garage or an unusable service elevator. Include every storage room and items that may be added before the date.
Before the first carry, the crew protects the agreed floor, banister and door route. A labeled inventory accounts for every agreed carton and connects the load to its receiving rooms. Provide the room plan, a contact able to approve placement and an entrance that will actually be available.

Household transport
Agree which furniture and cartons leave, which remain and what must arrive first. Different addresses and extra stops belong in the estimate.
Full or partial packing
Choose all agreed contents, a room or fragile items. Packing uses working time; company cartons are separately charged.
Furniture preparation
Basic disassembly and reassembly use moving labor time with no separate basic assembly surcharge. Complex wardrobes, wall beds or specialist sofa work need their own reviewed scope.
Placement and finishing
Furniture unwrapping is part of delivery. Optional box unpacking uses paid working time; packaging collection, organizing and mounting are separately agreed.
Building access
Give both buildings’ COI instructions, elevator hours, loading rules and approval contacts. Coordination needs management acceptance before the appointment.
A gap between homes
Compare suitable authorized staging, a known overnight hold and storage with later delivery. Include all handling and travel rather than only the storage rent.
Plan the work
Prepare what the estimator cannot see from an address.
Photograph large furniture, narrow doorways, stairs and landings, then show the actual route to the truck. Identify attachments and heavy or unusually fragile items. A mailing address does not establish the loading side, the floor or the distance from a lawful space to the entrance.
Decide whether you or the crew packs each area. Keep documents, medicines, chargers and immediate household needs with you. Unpacked drawers, loose possessions and late decisions can add handling time. Show those conditions during the review rather than hide them to obtain a smaller estimate.
Send a COI requirement early. A certificate records specified insurance information; it is not the same as insurance for all your belongings. Confirm submission, management acceptance and the separate elevator or vendor approval steps.

For a New Jersey intrastate household move, the current state consumer FAQ describes an on-site or virtual survey before the written estimate. An item list can prepare that review; it should not be presented as a replacement for the required survey.
Pennsylvania’s official Information for Shippers distinguishes hourly charges for moves of 40 miles or less from weight-and-mileage charges for longer intrastate moves. Its estimate requirements and explanation of possible variation matter when comparing the complete quote. A general “local” label does not replace the route-specific terms.

Is the estimated number of hours a fixed price?
No. For hourly work it is a planning estimate, and a minimum is a booking condition. Read the quoted labor, travel and change terms; traffic, elevators and incomplete preparation can increase the time needed.
Is furniture assembly an extra charge?
Basic disassembly and reassembly use moving labor time without a separate basic assembly surcharge. Complex wardrobes, wall beds, systems furniture and specialist sofa work are reviewed and quoted individually.
Do I have to pack everything myself?
No. Full, partial and fragile-item packing are available with an agreed list. Packing is charged for working time and company cartons separately. Identify what you will pack so the crew and schedule suit the real preparation.
Do you put furniture in the rooms and open the boxes?
Furniture is unwrapped and placed in the agreed rooms. Opening cartons and placing their contents is optional paid unpacking. Packaging collection and organizing are separate scopes.
Can you provide a building COI?
Yes. Send the management contact and exact written requirements early. Confirm management acceptance as well as submission; elevator bookings and other vendor approvals remain separate steps.
Can a local estimate be based only on an item list?
The planning team selects the review method under the applicable rules. For New Jersey intrastate household moves, an on-site or virtual survey precedes the written estimate. Complete that review rather than treat the list as the entire quotation process.
